Ryan T. Smith, M.D.
Ryan T. Smith, MD is a board certified, fellowship trained surgeon who specializes in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. Dr. Smith graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Toledo and earned his doctorate in medicine at the University of Cincinnati. After completing an internship in internal medicine at The Christ Hospital in 2005, he continued his training with a three-year ophthalmology residency at the University of Cincinnati, where he was named chief resident.
Dr. Smith has since acheived an exclusive status among ophthalmologists by completing advanced clinical and surgical training at Durrie Vision/ The University of Kansas. He is recognized as being an expert in laser vision correction using custom, blade free LASIK, PRK and lens replacement surgery. He has lectured at international meetings and instructs ophthalmologists from around the world on how to successfully use these advanced technologies. His research has been published in various professional medical journals and text books.
Dr. Ryan Smith is also a specialist in corneal disease. He is one of a few corneal surgeons in the United States who is certified in the implantation of Intacs corneal ring segments for the treatment of keratoconus. He is skilled in both full and partial thickness corneal transplants in addition to medically treating a variety of external eye diseases.
Dr. Smith is passionate about humanitarian efforts. Each winter, Dr. Smith teams with the Lion's Club and VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) to serve those who can't afford or obtain quality eye care. With a team of surgeons, more than 150 cataract surgeries are performed yearly, for an improverished Central American community.
Dr. Smith is active member of a number of professional organizations including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Ohio State Medical Association and the Clermont County Medical Society. Dr. Smith is married and has two children.
