Glaucoma Cincinnati Ohio
The Midwest Eye Center offers the most advanced treatment for Glaucoma. Glaucoma can be defined as a group of eye diseases that gradually steals sight without warning and often without symptoms. Glaucoma causes vision loss by damaging to the optic nerve. The optic nerve is responsible for carrying the images we see to the brain.
It was once thought that high intraocular pressure (IOP) was the main cause of optic nerve damage. However, even people with "normal" IOP can experience vision loss from glaucoma. This would lead us to believe that other factors associated with glaucoma are responsible for vision impairment.
Cincinnati Ohio Glaucoma
The Midwest Eye Center recognizes that potentially any sign of vision loss may be an early warning sign of glaucoma. Glaucoma and cataracts can be a natural part of the aging process. In fact, many people over 60 years of age may have both. However, the two are not associated. Glaucoma does not cause cataracts and cataracts do not cause glaucoma. Glaucoma is most often a problem with drainage; a cataract is a clouding of the eye’s lens allowing less light to pass through.
The Midwest Eye Center understands that both cataracts and glaucoma are serious conditions that can cause you to lose vision. Both glaucoma and cataracts can be treated at the Midwest Center. It is important to understand that, loss of vision due to cataracts can be reversed with surgery. Loss of vision from glaucoma is, as yet, irreversible.
