LASIK
Dr. Schneider and his staff are able to offer a wide range of treatment procedures including BLADELESS CUSTOM LASIK surgery. LASIK has always involved two steps: making a flap and reshaping the cornea with the excimer laser. Because we are dedicated to providing our patients with the best possible vision, we use the Intralase femtosecond laser to make the flap, thereby making LASIK an ALL LASER procedure.
Since the excimer laser was first approved by the FDA in 1995, LASIK has become one of the most popular surgical procedures for vision correction. Everyday, more and more patients in need of vision correction choose LASIK because it is proven to have less side effects and a quicker recovery time than most other vision correction procedures. LASIK, which stands for 'laser in-situ keratomileusis', is a surgical procedure that treats astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness by removing tissue within the cornea. PRK
PRK is similar to LASIK surgery in that it corrects varying degrees of astigmatism, nearsightedness and farsightedness vision by reshaping the cornea. However, the two procedures are different. With PRK the outer surface of the cornea is reshaped using the excimer laser (a 'cold laser' that doesn't burn tissue but sculpts and reshapes by removing one tiny layer at a time). Implantable Contact Lenses
What is it?
The Visian ICL™ (Implantable Collamer Lens) is a specifically designed lens that is permanently implanted in the eye behind the iris and in front of the natural lens. The lens is intended to correct moderate to severe nearsightedness (myopia) in patients between the ages of 21 and 45. This type of lens is called a phakic IOL because the eye still has its natural lens. Since the correction is preformed inside the eye, the procedure requires more technical expertise than LASIK. Most ICL patients tend to see quick, dramatic improvements in their eyesight within the first 24 hours.
How does it work?
It works by bending (refracting) light rays to allow them to focus on the retina.
When is it used?
The Implantable Contact Lens is intended for use in adult patients with healthy eyes and stable vision. These small lenses are capable of correcting large amounts of nearsightedness and may be better surgical solutions for those with high corrections or corneas that are too thin to safely allow laser vision correction.
What will it accomplish?

Premium Lenses
New intraocular lens technologies such as pseudoaccomodative lenses (eg. Crystalens) or multifocal lenses (eg. ReSTOR, Tecnis) are used for treating cataracts and can provide good vision at both distance and near. People undergoing cataract surgery have a great advantage when choosing these advanced technology lenses in that they usually are no longer required to wear glasses at all times when trying to see up close and far away.
In many cases, people who have difficulty with reading are not yet considered to be candidates for cataract surgery. The natural lens in their eye is still clear but is no longer able to allow focus on near objects. In cases such as this, the surgeon may suggest an elective form of surgery known as a refractive lens exchange. Similar to cataract surgery, the patient's natural lens is replaced with an intraocular lens. This artificial lens is chosen to provide better near vision than is obtained by the person's own natural lens.
